The Athens General Hospital 'G. Gennimatas' has officially expanded its clinical reach with the operational rollout of its Telemedicine Station, within the framework of the National Telemedicine Network (EDIT). Live connections have now been activated nationwide, delivering specialized medical care directly to citizens in remote and island communities. To mark this milestone and drive the engagement of doctors and nurses in the initiative, the hospital hosted dedicated EDIT Information Days on May 27 and 28.

The Impact of EDIT for Medical Professionals

The network connects major National Health System (NHS) hospitals with primary healthcare units in isolated regions, providing clinical exposure to an unprecedented range of medical cases. By participating, physicians acquire hands-on experience in clinical telemedicine, while earning the official "EDIT Physician" certification which grants continuous access to the network and advanced clinical documentation tools. Furthermore, it offers a flexible, personalized workflow built around pre-arranged virtual teleconsultations.

Inside the Briefing Days Experience

Through small group sessions at the hospital's newly converted Telemedicine Station, doctors observed live examinations of patients in remote areas through direct links with rural clinics and island health hubs, proving the system's day-to-day clinical viability. The Dextera team also demonstrated high-resolution examination cameras alongside specialized telemedicine equipment - including digital stethoscopes, dermatoscopes, and otoscopes - while introducing the integrated Home Telemonitoring System for upcoming deployment, showcasing the next phase of decentralized digital care.

We extend our gratitude to the clinical members at "G. Gennimatas" who are leading the change toward an interconnected, digital-first healthcare ecosystem.
