Decentralizing Pediatric Healthcare: Children's Hospital "Agia Sofia" activates Telemedicine Station

A brightly lit, pediatric hospital hallway designed with child-friendly interior decor. The walls feature pastel mint and purple tones adorned with stylized, cartoonish city skyline murals showcasing blue buildings with yellow and orange rectangular windows. Protective bumper handrails line the walls. The floor is covered in colorful linoleum featuring yellow, purple, and blue sections, painted paint-spill graphics, and an orange ladder-like track winding down the center of the corridor toward an illuminated window at the far end.

The Children's Hospital "Agia Sofia" has officially expanded its specialized pediatric capabilities by putting into operation its Telemedicine Station under the National Telemedicine Network (ΕΔΙΤ). Active connections have now been established across Greece, bringing high-impact pediatric healthcare directly to remote and island regions. Within the framework of this initiative, the hospital hosted its dedicated EDIT Information Days on June 25 and 26 which was coordinated through the Quality, Research and Education Office under the leadership of Ms. Olga Papakyriakou, with the essential support and guidance of Ms. Anastasia Kanellou, Deputy Governor of Children's Hospital "Agia Sofia."

Core Benefits for Medical Professional

By joining the network, clinicians gain direct experience with telemedicine equipment, while significantly broadening their exposure to diverse regional pediatric cases. Furthermore, participating physicians receive official "EDIT Physician" certification, unlocking continuous access to the network. Clinicians also maintain complete scheduling autonomy, allowing them to anchor their network involvement around fully customizable, pre-arranged virtual appointments.

Inside the Briefing Days and Training Curriculum

The event featured overview presentations in the hospital’s main αmphitheater, alongside localized, small-group training blocks directly inside the new telemedicine station.

The curriculum delivered a rapid overview of the network's capabilities and clinicians were introduced to the station’s advanced diagnostics suite - demonstrating high-resolution cameras, digital stethoscopes, dermatoscopes, and otoscopes - while observing live remote pediatric examinations connected directly to regional units. Attendees also previewed the network's upcoming Home Telemonitoring System (ΣΚΟΠ).

By integrating 'Agia Sofia' into this advanced network, the hospital reinforces its commitment to medical innovation that actively bridges geographical disparities, driven by the technical expertise and deployment support of Dextera.
